Improvements, repurposing, and progress

Superintendent's Message

Tiger families:

It is hard to believe that we are about to begin our fifth-consecutive summer of major construction projects at Allegan Public Schools. Thanks to the community’s support, our facilities continue to improve in ways that will benefit students for many years to come. This summer will look similar to 2025, with significant work taking place at Allegan High School and Allegan Elementary, along with significant renovations at Dawson.

Allegan High School improvements

Several exciting updates are planned at Allegan High School this summer. We will be upgrading the sound, lighting, and curtain systems in the Performing Arts Center. This work will begin during Spring Break.

Additional improvements include new corridor flooring and renovations to the remaining classrooms that were not upgraded last summer. These classrooms will receive the same improvements that most classrooms received during the summer of 2025. The media center will also receive a complete refresh, and we are excited to announce that the former computer lab will be transformed into a new esports room, which will provide a new opportunity for our students. In addition, new cafeteria furniture will be in place by the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Allegan Elementary construction progress

Construction at the new elementary school continues to make great progress. We anticipate that the tradespeople will complete their work by the end of May. The summer months will focus on final exterior touches and preparing the building for the start of the school year. During that time, staff will transition classroom materials, technology, and equipment into the new space.

As progress continues, we look forward to sharing details about opportunities for our community to step inside and experience the new school firsthand.

Dawson Elementary repurposing

We are also excited to announce that Allegan Public Schools’ early childhood programs will be moving to Dawson, which will become the new Allegan Early Childhood Center. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, the Young Fives, Early Childhood Special Education, and Head Start programs will operate from this location. Classrooms in the southernmost section of Dawson will be renovated this summer to prepare for our youngest learners. This transition will allow Little Tigers Learning Center to expand programming at North Ward and continue addressing the significant community need for childcare and GSRP preschool opportunities.

If you ever have questions about our construction progress, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.

As always, I hope you enjoy this issue of “Our Schools.” Our students and staff filled the winter months with meaningful accomplishments and engaging activities across the district.

Thank you for your continued support of Allegan Public Schools. Go Tigers!
