Technology

Allegan Public Schools provides its students and staff with technology to support learning and instruction. Our district has partnered with Southwest MiTech to help us maintain our technology infrastructure, repair student devices, and provide support for students, teachers, and staff.

Student Devices

Our district provides access to over 2,300 Chromebooks and approximately 100 iPads for student learning. Elementary and middle school students have access to an assigned Chromebook that remains in the building. High school students have access to an assigned Chromebook that may be taken home. iPads are used to assist our students with special learning needs. We also provide hotspots for students who do not have access to the Internet at home.

Technology Use

Students and parents are encouraged to review our District Technology and Acceptable Use policy, which explains the district’s technology use policies and answers questions you may have.

Technology Acceptable Use Agreements

Students and parents are required to sign our Technology Acceptable Use Policy agreement prior to being given access to our network or a school computer. Protection Plan

Families are encouraged to purchase our optional technology protection plan, which will help guard against the expense of repair costs for accidental damage to a district-provided computing device.

The participation fee for the optional technology protection plan—which is in effect for the current school year—is $25.00 per device (nonrefundable) with a $0 deductible cost. If your family has more than two children receiving computing devices through Allegan Public Schools, the total amount for insurance is capped at $50.

Please note that the plan covers only the first instance of accidental damage; any additional repairs will be the family’s responsibility. If a replacement device is issued, families would need to purchase the plan again to have coverage on the new device.

The technology protection plan can be purchased through eFunds. To assist you with this process, we encourage you to view our Technology Protection Plan Purchasing Instructions. Families can also make payments via cash or check at their student’s school office.

Fines

Families who choose to forgo purchasing the technology protection plan may be responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement for a district-provided computing device in the event of theft, loss, or damage due to intentional or unintentional abuse or misuse. Families will be notified in writing if their student receives a computing device fine. The cost for the repair or replacement of a district-provided computing device is as follows:
