Educational Foundation

The Educational Foundation was established in 1988 to enhance the educational offerings in the Allegan Public Schools District as well as provide opportunities for students to receive scholarship funds for continuing education. The Foundation provides mini-grants to teaching staff annually in order to enrich classroom resources above what the district’s annual budget allows and administrates several scholarships for graduating Allegan High School seniors.

Our Members

The Foundation is governed by a board of community members, the superintendent of Allegan Public Schools, and a member of the Board of Education. The purpose of the governing membership is to provide leadership, direction, and oversight for solicitation and distribution of funds which affect educational opportunities for APS students without discrimination regarding age, sex, race, religious affiliation, or national origin of the individuals or programs to be benefitted by its financial disbursements.

Teacher Mini-Grants are available for Allegan Public Schools teachers to assist in funding projects or educationally appropriate materials. Grants are awarded depending on the criteria they fall under.

Regular Grants

These are funded through the Educational Foundation fundraising efforts, including the Cash Party and C.O.D.E. Orange proceeds. They can be used for any classroom supplies or other learning enhancement in any subject area. In the past few years, the Foundation has donated between $6,000 and $7,500 annually to fund these grants, depending on the success of fundraising efforts that year.

Kaechele Memorial Grants

Walt and Cheryl Kaechele have transferred the Jennifer Kaechele Memorial Fund to provide annual mini-grants for teachers in the area of fine arts (including art, creative writing, music, theater, or any performing arts. A minimum of $1,000 will be allocated each year for activities related to fine arts. If qualifying applications do not meet or exceed the allocated amount, remaining funds will be retained for future years’ allocations.

Rock Myers Scholarship

The family of Roscoe E. “Rock” Myers has created a yearly memorial scholarship to encourage the future education of Allegan High School graduates. The Myers family has continued their interest by awarding a scholarship through the Educational Foundation of Allegan Public Schools who will be pursuing an academic degree. Applicants for the “Rock” Myers Scholarship may seek additional information and/or an application at the high school counseling office. Applicants will fill out an application and then be interviewed by a committee from outside the Educational Foundation Board.
