M-89 construction advisory

Important Update

APS families are reminded that construction will begin March 25 on a new roundabout where M-89/Marshall Street joins M-40 South/Jenner Drive, Ely Street, Cedar Street, and Hubbard Street. This construction will involve road closures and may affect your routes and travel times to our school buildings. Pedestrian traffic within the construction zone will also be affected. For those families with school bus riders, the construction may also affect the timing of our bus routes, so we ask for your patience.

With this in mind, families are advised to plan ahead accordingly.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has provided the following images that show the road closures and pedestrian detour. These images will be useful if you are traveling to our school buildings. You can click on the images to view larger versions:

We also suggest visiting the MDOT Mi Drive website for a more detailed view of the road closures. This site can be a valuable tool to help you plan your routes.

The new roundabout is expected to open to traffic by the end of August.

The construction project will also bring several other improvements to M-89 including:

    • Resurfacing of M-89 between 2nd Street and 29th Street
    • Sidewalk reconstruction
    • Storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main improvements

Those projects are expected to be fully completed by November.
