Despite chilly conditions and stiff competition, the Tigers put on an impressive performance at the annual Allegan Invitational on Friday night. The 16-team event saw strong performances from the Tigers, with several personal records (PRs) and top-10 finishes.
On the boy’s side, Sully Garvin stood out, placing 8th in both the shot put and discus events, with throws of 41 feet, 5 inches and 110 feet, 8 inches respectively. The 3200-meter relay team of Kellen Chalupa, Noah Greig, Hunter McKee, and Nathan Martinez also placed 8th, clocking a season-best time of 9 minutes, 16.11 seconds — an improvement of nearly 11 seconds from their previous best. Pole vaulter Sylar Bush medaled, placing 5th overall with a clearance of 9 feet, 6 inches.
Jacob Cranmer, Cooper Prentice, and Oliver Burnett all hit new season and lifetime bests. Cranmer ran the 100-meter dash in 25.44 seconds, while Prentice and Burnett achieved new lifetime PRs in the 3200-meter run with times of 12:02.74 and 12:33.11, respectively. The 800-meter relay team of Jeremiah Edwards, Brody McDade, Colby Bishop, and Malacca Truax also set a season-best time of 1:41.55.
Among the female athletes, Jayden VandenAkker was the standout performer. She placed and medaled in both hurdle races. In the 100-meter high hurdles, she achieved a new PR of 15.77 seconds, finishing in 3rd place. She then dominated the 300-meter hurdles, becoming the meet champion with a lifetime best time of 47.87 seconds.
Dawn DeGood had a notable performance, setting new lifetime PRs in both the shot put and discus. She placed 7th in the discus with a PR throw of 94 feet, 2 inches and hit 30 feet in the shot put. Ramoneah Hughley also achieved new PRs, running the 100-meter in 15.19 seconds and the 200-meter in 32.48 seconds.
The Tigers will next compete in Bridgman on Wednesday.
