TIger Swim has Impressive Showing at Holland Christian Invite

The Allegan Girls Swim and Dive Team emerged as the runner-up champions in the 2023 D3 Midseason Invitational held at the Holland Aquatic Center today. The host, Holland Christian High School, took first place with 315 points, while Allegan trailed closely with 306 points. The other teams, Unity Christian, Grand Rapids Christian, Chelsea, Hamilton, Spring Lake, Ludington, Otsego, Plainwell, and Tecuseh, finished with 297, 292, 277.5, 267, 190, 148, 112, 90.5, and 30 points respectively.

Allegan not only secured the second position but also set new school records in two events. The medley relay team comprising Mikayla Reimink, Lizzy Ehrich, Eliza DeLaet, and Bella Festerling clinched the top spot, setting a new school record with a D3 State Meet qualifying time of 1:52.82. Reimink won the 100 backstroke, setting another school record with a time of 59.88, thereby beating her previous State Meet cut time.

Several other top 8 individual performances contributed to Allegan’s strong showing. These included Maddie Antkoviak in the 200 freestyle, Eliza DeLaet in the 200 individual medley, Maddie, Lilli Kelley and Nolynn Coombs in the 50 freestyle, Bailee Dilley in diving, Mikayla Reimink and Eliza DeLaet in the 100 butterfly, Bella Festerling in the 100 freestyle, Lilli Kelley in the 100 backstroke, and Lizzy Ehrich in the 100 breaststroke.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Bella Festerling, Nolynn Coombs, Maddie Antkoviak, and Eliza DeLaet secured a second place finish, while another team—Lilli Kelley, Grace Kelley, Lizzy Ehrich, and Audrey Penrod—ended up in the 11th position. The 400 freestyle relay team comprising Maddie Antkoviak, Lilli Kelley, Mikayla Reimink, and Nolynn Coombs finished third overall.

The Tigers faced some of the best competition in D3 and elevated their performance to a commendable level. The team is encouraged by the current season’s progress and anticipates continued improvement as they intensify their midseason training. Allegan’s next competition is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd at 6 p.m. at the Allegan Aquatic Center against Marshall.
